Mistplay Review: How to Get Free Gift Cards for Gaming
Do you want to get a little extra spending money? You can earn free gift cards by playing games on your phone with reward apps like Mistplay. Within two months, you could easily earn around $70 or more in gift cards of your choice by playing games in your spare time.
What is Mistplay?
Mistplay is an app that rewards you for playing games on your phone. It runs in the background while you play games, tracking your engagement and time played to reward you. The longer you have an app open and active on your phone, the more units you earn.
Download Mistplay and launch the app to start earning units. Once inside the app, you choose any number of games Mistplay offers to download. Always launch games through the Mistplay app- it will open the apps for you. That helps enable Mistplay to track your gameplay.
Too good to be true, or is Mistplay Legit?
Good news: Mistplay is legit. You won't be rolling in the dough, but it’s a good way to make a passive $50 here and there.
How long does it take to redeem with Mistplay? Depending on bonuses available and time spent on the apps, it took me roughly a week of passively playing games on my phone to earn enough units for a $10 gift card.
What are Mistplay Units?
Units are the "currency" that Mistplay issues when you reach checkpoints and complete events.
The reward scale for Mistplay units baffled me for a while. It takes 1800 units to redeem most $5 gift cards, but only 3000 units to get $10.
So, the price of a unit increases if you earn past the $5 mark.
If you redeem a $5 reward, each unit is roughly $0.0028, but if you choose to wait and get a $10 reward, it increases to around $0.0033 per unit. It's worth it to wait for the $10 mark.
What Type of Rewards Does Mistplay Offer?
Mistplay has a variety of rewards a user can redeem with their units, ranging from fast food, gaming, streaming, delivery apps, online shopping, PayPal, and other popular retailers. There are about 37 options to choose from!
Amazon gift cards and PayPal have different unit purchase levels than other rewards. It takes 2150 units to redeem a $5 Amazon gift card, which makes each unit around $0.0023. The lowest redeemable reward for PayPal is $10 and requires 3700 units- roughly $0.0027 per unit. So, in my opinion, these rewards are not worth it.
My Mistplay Review- How Much I Made in 2 Months
I liked using Mistplay for the most part. Again, you won't get rich by any sense of the imagination by using this app- but a little extra spending money is nice.
I started using the app around mid-November 2024 and stopped using it as often at the start of January. In that time, I had logged 123+ hours of gaming and earned 21,362 units. In total, I redeemed $70 worth of gift cards, which came in handy during the holidays.

There’s a wide variety of games to try. I actually found a couple of new favorites. You can try puzzle games, RPGs, coloring games, simulations, and more. Honestly, there are so many types of games!
There are extra events to help you earn more. You don’t have to rely on the game checkpoints to earn rewards- Mistplay offers daily events, almost like little challenges for you to complete for extra units.
Mistplay's app is easy to navigate. I never felt lost while maneuvering around. It's also pleasant to look at.
Things I Don’t Like About Mistplay
It’s not an honest review if I don’t highlight the things about Mistplay that I don’t like, so let’s dive into the cons.
The Longer I Used Mistplay, the Fewer Rewards I Earned
When I first downloaded Mistplay, I was dazzled by games promising fast and high unit payouts- and some of those even had additional bonuses (for example, a 4x speed promise with 100+ units promised per checkpoint)! It was exciting and helped me earn rewards faster.
However, the longer I used Mistplay, the less available these things were. Mistplay wants you to keep trying new games, but it was less than enticing to try a new game after having 4x unit multiplier options decrease to 2.5x or lower. Units per checkpoint for these other games also tend to be 40 or lower.
I occasionally check the app to see if I’ll ever get higher-earning games again, but they’ve been few and far between.
To be fair- I'm not sure how much of this is on Mistplay and how much of it is availability of new content and their gaming partners.
Unit Pricing System
As I mentioned above, the unit system is a little odd. I wasn’t a big fan of it- especially when halfway through earning units, the price of an Amazon gift card (which had still been the same as the rest of the gift cards up to that point) suddenly cost more units.
Phone Battery Usage
It’s no secret that an app running in the background will drain your phone battery. Running games with Mistplay drained my battery significantly faster. Again, that made sense, but it was frustrating nonetheless. Running in the background is likely why Mistplay is not available for iOS.
Tips to Earn the Most with Mistplay
Keep Trying New Games
Mistplay rewards users for continuously trying new games. They often give you daily bonuses for 40-60 minutes logged in a new game.
It’s also the best way to get points faster.
Game checkpoints are quicker to reach within the first 5-7 checkpoints. So, I recommend downloading a new game, getting to checkpoint 5 (checkpoint 7 or further if you enjoy the game), and then trying another new game. This tip will help you earn more!
Check for Boosts or Special Events
Mistplay has daily events for users to complete to earn extra units. During December, they had extra events to celebrate the holidays. I enjoyed finding these. It made me feel like Mistplay valued me as a user by rewarding extra units every day leading up to Christmas.
There are also occasional sweepstakes. I don’t join these since you have to spend units to get entries, and I'd rather spend my units on gift cards.
Ignore the Diamonds
I see no benefit in making in-game purchases to get diamonds from Mistplay.
Every game has a different gem to $1 ratio. Most are one gem for every dollar you spend in that game. It requires two gems to get just 10 units. It does not pay out well, considering units worth less than a penny.
Conclusion
Mistplay is a good app option if you want rewards for playing games on your phone. It's one of the top apps in its field, so I recommend checking it out.
